Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen announced plans to establish an independent Aircraft Accident Investigations Unit in the Maldives to enhance aviation safety, aligning with international best practices. He stated that establishment of the unit would require a presidential decree, with a proposal expected to be submitted to the cabinet by the end of January 2025. Highlighting the Maldives' high volume of daily flights and the world’s largest seaplane network, he emphasised the importance of a dedicated investigative body.
