President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to sign an agreement with a Chinese company in February 2025 to establish a fish factory in Gaafu Dhaalu Fiyoari, addressing the challenges faced by local fishermen who currently travel to Kooddoo to weigh their catch. The facility will feature a 100-tonne daily processing cannery, a 3,000-tonne cold storage unit, and a 50-tonne ice plant, with construction set to begin within two weeks of signing. During his visit to the island, the President also promised improvements to school infrastructure, banking services, and waste management systems under the 2025 budget.
