The National Drug Agency (NDA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Allied Health Council, has initiated discussions to enhance the training of counsellors supporting individuals recovering from substance use. NDA Chairperson Lubna Zahir Hussain highlighted plans for research by the National Institute for Research and Addictions Studies to better understand substance use trends in the Maldives. Additionally, the NDA aims to establish qualified counsellors across all Maldivian islands while preparing to enforce legal measures against those who fail to comply with treatment programmes.
