First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed emphasised that health and wellness are crucial gifts linked to human safety during the World Diabetes Day 2024 ceremony in Dhiggaru, Meemu Atoll. She noted that the Maldives' transition to a developing nation has shifted health concerns from communicable diseases to lifestyle-related conditions like diabetes and cancer. The First Lady also launched the "Lifestyle Intervention Programme" to evaluate how sustainable behavioural changes might reduce diabetes risk, with ten local residents from Dhiggaru already trained as lifestyle coaches to support the initiative.
