The Progressive National Congress (PNC) has announced that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will seek re-election in 2028, bypassing a presidential primary as per the party’s rules granting an incumbent president an automatic second-term candidacy. PNC Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla confirmed the decision, highlighting it as a significant step towards securing a historic second consecutive term under the Maldivian constitution. The party has also completed its internal elections, filling all 1,984 posts and demonstrating strong organisational progress.
