The Maldives has criticised the outcomes of COP29 in Azerbaijan, arguing that the USD 300 billion annual climate finance target is insufficient to address the urgent needs of vulnerable nations. Minister Thoriq Ibrahim called for grants instead of loans and highlighted the disproportionate investments in warfare by developed nations compared to climate action. Despite expressing disappointment, the Maldives remains committed to its renewable energy goals and is urging stronger commitments ahead of COP30 in Brazil.
