The Criminal Court on Friday remanded Maseeh Moosa of Th. Thimarafushi for 10 days, following his arrest on Thursday night on suspicion of issuing death threats against President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The 25-year-old is suspected of making death threats against the President in a social media post, following the President’s instruction to the authorities to initiate discussions on implementing the death penalty for drug traffickers.

A Facebook user identified as Maseeh Moosa allegedly posted a comment containing obscene language and making a threat to the President’s life. A screenshot of the post has since been widely shared online, prompting public concern and calls for accountability.

Maseeh was arrested on Thursday night under a court order, and his mobile phone was seized as part of the investigation. The authorities have confirmed that the case is under investigation.
