Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the vandalism of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) main hub in Malé.

According to the Maldives Police Service, a report was received on 1 August at approximately 1:30 p.m. regarding damage to the steel gate of the MDP’s main hub, located on Chaandhanee Magu. Photos circulating on social media show the gate visibly bent and severely damaged.

Police have confirmed that a 49-year-old Maldivian man, identified as Mohamed Razeen, was arrested in connection with the incident. No further details have been disclosed, as the investigation remains ongoing.

The MDP main hub has been targeted previously, including an incident earlier this year when the building was defaced with black oil.
