Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has announced that the Government is set to expand the list of business sectors reserved exclusively for Maldivian nationals, with 20 additional sectors to be included. This move, decided at a recent Cabinet meeting, aims to promote local entrepreneurship and strengthen domestic economic participation.

Speaking during an interview on PSM’s Rajje Miadhu programme, the Minister stated that the Cabinet had reached a consensus to reinforce the protection of domestic enterprises. He explained that the decision was informed by extensive consultations involving the President, Cabinet Ministers, legal experts, and key stakeholders across multiple sectors.

According to the Minister, the updated list will enhance opportunities for Maldivians to engage in and benefit from business activities while safeguarding domestic enterprises.

The Minister stated that this initiative would support the availability of 162 food items across the country at affordable prices.
