Police retrieve missing items valued at MVR 4.9 million

The Maldives Police Service recovered over MVR 4.9 million worth of stolen or missing items in July, as part of operations to curb theft and strengthen public safety across the Greater Malé area.

According to police data, a total of 202 items were retrieved last month, including motorcycles, mobile phones, electronics, and cash. The largest recovery was 69 missing motorcycles, valued at MVR 3.4 million. Additionally, police recovered 22 mobile phones worth over MVR 213,000, 12 electronic devices valued at MVR 168,850, and 43 cash-related cases amounting to MVR 935,972.

Police also released operational statistics for frontline activity in the Malé area during July. Officers conducted a total of 41,574 searches across the city and logged over 1,196 hours of foot patrols throughout the month. During these operations, police conducted stop-and-question checks on 6,389 individuals. Of those, 6,145 were found to have prior criminal records, while 244 had no known criminal history. Additionally, seven foreign nationals encountered during the checks were referred to Maldives Immigration for further action.
