Alifu Alifu Ranfaru, has been officially declared an inhabited island and integrated into jurisdiction of Maalhos, under a new Government resolution.

The announcement was made on 6 August, 2025, through Presidential Decree No. 20/2025, issued by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in line with powers granted under Section 134(a) of the Decentralisation Act (No. 7/2010). The decree also confirms the formal Dhivehi and English spelling of Ranfaru for administrative purposes, and adds the island to the national list of inhabited islands.

This declaration follows President Dr Muizzu’s visit to Alifu Alifu Atoll in December 2024, where he committed to recognising Ranfaru as part of Maalhos during meetings with the Atoll Council and the Women’s Development Committee.
