Starting December 1, 2024, the Maldives will revise Departure Tax rates under the Airport Taxes and Fees Act, significantly increasing charges based on travel class, ranging from USD 12 for Maldivians in economy to USD 480 for private jet passengers. The Airport Development Fee will be discontinued as of November 30, 2024, with exemptions provided for diplomats, transit passengers with layovers under 24 hours, and children under two. Revenue from the new tax structure will support maintenance and expansion efforts at Velana International Airport.
