The Ministry of Finance has announced the elimination of additional retirement allowances for new retirees starting next year, targeting agencies like the Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) that currently receive these supplementary benefits. The reform, part of broader cost-cutting measures, aims to address the unsustainable practice of "double pensions" that has strained public finances. The Government expects these pension reforms, along with other initiatives, to save MVR 6.6 billion in the 2025 budget.
