The Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, has confirmed that all necessary funds have been secured to develop the fisheries sector, with significant improvements expected over the next two years. Among the key initiatives is a plan to expand storage capacity from the current 8,000 tonnes to 25,000 tonnes, addressing pressing capacity limitations. The Government’s comprehensive strategy, requiring an investment of MVR 5 billion, aims to address fishermen’s challenges, enhance operational efficiency, and explore new export markets to drive growth in the fisheries sector.
