Velana International Airport (VIA) has recorded its highest-ever daily air cargo export, with 114 tonnes of cargo shipped in a single day.

The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said the new milestone surpassed the previous record of 100 tonnes.

The company also reported that 7,928 tonnes of cargo were exported through VIA during the first six months of the year, marking a 15 per cent increase from the 6,879 tonnes exported during the same period in 2025.

March recorded the highest monthly export volume this year, with 1,791 tonnes of cargo transported by air.

Afcom Holding Pvt Ltd handled the largest share of inbound transshipments during the first half of the year, accounting for 27 per cent, followed by SriLankan Airlines with 25 per cent.

For outbound transshipments, Turkish Airlines and British Airways each accounted for 14 per cent, followed by Aeroflot at 12 per cent.

MACL said the latest milestone further strengthens VIA's position as a regional air cargo transshipment hub.
